The El Centro and Chula Vista eye doctors at American Eye Associates are pleased to support a number of worthy causes in our local and global communities. Following are some charitable endeavors with which our doctors are especially proud to be involved.

Dr. Nasrin Mani is a longtime supporter of the Los Angelitos Orphanage. Los Angelitos is a home for orphaned or abandoned children in the Rosarito-Tijuana, Mexico, area. Los Angelitos President Edward Perry recently announced the appointment of Dr. Nasrin Mani as the facility’s new medical director.

Dr. Nasrin Mani brings more than 25 years of experience in the medical profession to the position, and she is well known throughout southern California as the cofounder of American Eye Associates. She also brings a passion for treating the underprivileged, especially children.

“I never had any kids of my own, and I am so happy to have this chance to treat children who would otherwise go without care,” Dr. Nasrin Mani said. “The children at the orphanage are so loving and grateful. I feel blessed to be able to be there to help them.”

Dr. Nasrin Mani believes in sharing what she has been given to touch the lives of others. Dr. Nasrin Mani came to the United States from Persia and grew up in Kansas, overcoming cultural and language barriers to become a top student; she eventually matriculated at Vanderbilt University, completing her internship and residency in ophthalmology. She completed her fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Southern California’s Doheny Eye Institute.

Dr. Hamid Mani is a proud supporter of the San Diego Police Foundation. The San Diego Police Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for equipment, training and outreach programs for the San Diego Police Department.

Due to law enforcement budget cuts, the role of the San Diego Police Foundation has become especially important. Money from the organization helps buy protective vests, upgrade technology, purchase service dogs, provide training, and fund crime prevention and public safety efforts.

The cofounder and CEO of American Eye Associates, Dr. Hamid Mani is also a graduate of Vanderbilt University’s ophthalmology program. He completed his vitreoretinal fellowship at Louisiana State University and is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the San Diego County Medical Society.

Dr. Nasrin Mani and Dr. Gholam Peyman, the world renowned, Hall of Fame Ophthalmologist and retina surgeon, at the Shiley Eye Center, UCSD on Saturday, February 14, 2015.

Dr. Peyman has been granted over 150 US patents, ranging from medical devices, intra-ocular drug delivery and surgical techniques. He has invented new methods of diagnosing and treating the eyes as well. His most recognizable invention is LASIK eye surgery, which corrects vision and enables patients to see without glasses. It was truly awe-inspiring to meet such a hero in the world of Ophthalmology.
