How do I know if I am a candidate for LASIK?
Visit us for a FREE consult. In this consult, you will be examined by one of our CRA doctors and you will also undergo an extensive evaluation to determine if you are a candidate. Most people are good candidates for LASIK, but some may not be. However, there may be other options for you to help reduce your dependency on glasses.
Talk to your CRA doctor about your health conditions, as some may impact your ability to undergo LASIK. Other things like thin corneas or dry eyes may also affect your ability to undergo LASIK.
We use WaveLight® LASIK technology with CONTOURA® Vision, the latest available technology for LASIK. With Contoura® we have the ability to map your cornea and offer a more custom LASIK procedure. LASIK results with Contoura® have been outstanding.
Keep in mind that you may be asked to not wear contact lenses for up to two weeks before your evaluation to help your eyes return to their natural shape.
What to expect from the procedure
Although different people have different experiences, LASIK is a quick, safe and painless procedure. First, Anesthetic drops will be used to numb your eyes. Next, you will lie down on a comfortable bed that will be under the LASER. The LASER will then make a flap of tissue and the flap will be lifted, your cornea will be reshaped by pulses of LASER energy and the flap will then be repositioned. The procedure lasts about 10-15 minutes/ Pulses of laser energy will precisely reshape your cornea
Most people have a fast recovery and are able to see well the next day. Some may experience some scratchy feeling and tearing for a day or two.
Most people have very little side effects, talk with your CRA doctor about the risk of complications and side effects of LASIK.
Common risks associated with LASIK procedures include:
- Developing dry eye syndrome, which can be severe
- The possible need for glasses or contact lenses after surgery
- Visual symptoms including halos, glare, starbursts and double vision, which can be debilitating
- The loss of vision
