Mauricio E. Pons, M.D.
Mauricio E. Pons, M.D., an associate at American Eye Associates, brings extensive knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of patients with glaucoma. Dr. Pons grew up in Argentina, where he received his medical degree and completed an Ophthalmology Residency. He immigrated to the United States and furthered his education by becoming a resident at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (NYEE) in New York, N.Y. He then completed fellowship programs, including the Vitreo-Retinal fellowship at University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Dr. Pons has received various awards for his work in both North and South America. He holds honors for his activities within the field, including an Excellence in Research award from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery/Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Pons has published multiple peer-reviewed articles, many of which have been presented at national and international meetings, including authoring a multitude of publications and posters for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Pons’ memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He is affiliated with Sharp Memorial Hospital and Scripps Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Pons has been voted by his peers, both within his specialty and outside, as one of San Diego County’s Top Doctors by San Diego County Medical Society for six years.
