George Papastergiou, M.D.
Dr. Papastergiou is a prolific researcher, who has published numerous clinical articles and currently reviews for major Ophthalmology journals such as Journal of Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology, Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and European Journal of Ophthalmology. In addition, he has been selected as the principal investigator in national research studies on macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Rome, he continued his post graduate training and earned his Ph.D. from the Medical School of DUTH. He then completed his internship at the University of Pennsylvania, his residency at the Medical College of Georgia, a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the Piedmont Hospital of Atlanta, and an Ophthalmology Research Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Scheie Eye Institute. He has been in private practice for almost ten years and has practiced in his native Greece, Atlanta, GA, and Honolulu, HI. Dr. Papastergiou’s memberships include, among others, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Surgeons. He is affiliated with the Sharp Memorial Hospital and the Scripps Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Papastergiou has been voted by his peers, both within his specialty and outside, as one of San Diego County’s Top Doctors by the San Diego County Medical Society for 2023, an award only 147 San Diego Physicians can claim.
