Frequently Asked Questions

How Should I Prepare For The LASIK Consultation?

It is recommended to arrive at least 10 minutes early for your scheduled appointment. Upon arrival you will be filling out NEW PATIENT FORMS and a LIFESTYLE QUESTIONNAIRE which will be provided for you in office or accessible to download online. We strive to create the best patient experience for all and to better serve your specific needs. It is recommended to write down all questions that you may have for the doctor. Our staff will be more than happy to assist in answering any questions that you may have.

What Should I Bring For The LASIK Consultation?

Please bring your old or current glasses/contact lenses prescription with you. The old or current prescription will be used as a comparison to check the stability of your vision. We recommend discontinuing wearing soft contact lenses three days prior to your consultation. If you are wearing hard contact lenses, we recommend to discontinue wearing them for 1 week. We recommend not wearing contact lenses for the duration of 3 days to 1 week due to the contact lenses reshaping the cornea. We want to see the cornea in its most natural state to better assist in determining your candidacy for LASIK or PRK. It is highly recommended to have your eyes dilated to see the over-all health of your eyes. Dilation makes you light sensitive and reading difficult. We recommend bringing a pair of sunglasses for your comfort.

What Should I Expect?

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a friendly front desk team member who will assist you with check-in and completing your NEW PATIENT and LIFESTYLE QUESTIONNAIRE forms. Prior to seeing the doctor you will meet with a skilled technician who will perform diagnostic tests, which may include:

  • Corneal Topography/Tomography: This test is used to check the front and back curvature of the cornea. This test is key in discovering astigmatism, keratoconus, and corneal scarring.
  • Pachymetry: Tests the thickness of the cornea which is key in determining which procedure you are a candidate for (LASIK or PRK).
  • Pupillometry: Determines the size of your pupil.
  • Refraction: Is used to check your current prescription for optimal and precise treatment planning.
  • Eye Pressure Check to ensure there are no signs of glaucoma or cataract.
  • Dilated Fundus Exam: To check the health of your retina. Dilation drops will be instilled that will cause light sensitivity and blurry vision at near.

After your testing is completed, a skilled optometrist will discuss treatment plan options with you. Together, you will establish a treatment plan specific to your needs and the type of procedure you are a candidate for. If you are a candidate for LASIK or PRK, your optometrist will answer any questions you have regarding what to expect during the procedure and recovery process. Lastly, you will meet with a knowledgeable LASIK coordinate who will thoroughly explain our available financial options.

This thorough Complimentary Comprehensive Consultation will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the patients treatment plan and questions. We allow optimal time for each individual to ensure they receive the greatest care.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
