Dr. James J. Peairs is a San Diego native and joined American Eye Associates in 2018. He graduated from Duke University in Durham, NC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and worked at the Duke Eye Center participating in research uncovering the pathophysiology behind age-related macular degeneration and uveitis.
Dr. Sassani is a board certified sub-specialty-trained ophthalmologist. He practices general ophthalmology and specializes in the surgical and medical conditions of the retina and vitreous including dry and wet macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, intraocular infections, and retinal vascular diseases.
Dr. Roula El-Moghrabi is an honors graduate of York University in Toronto, where she earned her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in biology. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree at Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Her clinical rotations were completed at Illinois Eye Institute and Panton Eye Clinic, an ophthalmology practice in Chicago, Illinois. She also interned and completed training at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Nancy El-Moghrabi is an honors graduate of York University in Toronto, where she earned her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in biology. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree at Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. She completed internships at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Grand Rapids, Detroit Medical Center, and an ophthalmology practice in Dubai.
A diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Chavez specializes in sutureless cataract IOL surgery, pterygium surgery, glaucoma laser surgery and eyelid surgery.
Gregory A. Stainer, M.D. is an ophthalmologist who specializes in Corneal & External Diseases. Dr. Stainer began his medical career at Northwestern University in Chicago where he completed his internship at Northwestern Hospital and his residency at the University of Wisconsin.
Walid F. Abdallah, MD, PhD, was born in Egypt and earned his medical degree (MBBCh) from Zagazig University. Thereafter, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Zagazig University in 2004, followed by a Doctorate degree in Ophthalmology in 2011. Additionally, he earned the FRCS in ophthalmology from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow, UK in 2011.
Dr. Khandan is an ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma and cataracts. After receiving her undergraduate degree from University of California, Davis, Dr. Khandan pursued her medical degree at Rush University. She then moved to Michigan where she completed her ophthalmology residency at Beaumont Hospital. Afterwards, she moved to Florida where she completed her glaucoma fellowship at the world renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
Emma McDonnell, M.D.
Emma McDonnell, M.D., is a board certified Oculoplasic and Reconstructive Surgeon. She specializes in adult and pediatric reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery (i.e. Blepharoplasty), brow and forehead lifts, facial and orbital surgery. Dr. McDonnell is trained to diagnose and manage diseases of the eye socket and the lacrimal drainage system, and thyroid eye diseases, and to treat facial trauma and eyelid injuries.
