Parnian Arjmand, M.D., M.Sc., F.R.C.S. (C)
Parnian Arjmand, M.D., M.Sc., is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon. She specializes in treating medical and surgical retinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, hereditary degenerative retinal diseases, and repair of retinal detachment, retinal tear, macular hole and epiretinal membranes. As well, she has a particular interest in complex anterior segment surgery and secondary lens implantation.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Dr. Arjmand received a full scholarship to attend the University of Toronto, Trinity college, where she graduated with Honors Bachelor of Science with High Distinction in Immunology. She then completed a Master of Science degree at the University of Toronto in basic science Immunology for two years where she worked on the pathogenesis of childhood autoimmune conditions. She attended McMaster University for medical school and completed her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute in Ottawa, Canada, followed by two years of fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Toronto, where she also served as the chief fellow.
Dr. Arjmand is the recipient of numerous awards and research grants including a pneumatic retinopexy fellowship award for her high success rate in retinal detachment repair as a fellow, Vit Buckle Society recognition for outstanding surgical video, and twice first and third prize winner of the Excellence in Ophthalmic Research Award from the Canadian Ophthalmological Society. She has received research scholarships from the Canadian Institute of Health Research, Queen Elizabeth II Canada Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology, and the Dick and Peggy Sharpe Graduate Student Fellowship award. Dr. Arjmand has published many book chapters, editorials, and research articles in journals including Ophthalmology, the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging, and the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Arjmand is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Canadian Ophthalmological Society.
In her free time, she enjoys running, cycling, yoga, and exploring Southern California’s beautiful hiking trails. Dr Arjmand is fluent in English, French, Persian and medical Spanish.
