Refresh Tired Eyes with Lower Blepharoplasty
If under-eye puffiness, sagging skin, or a tired appearance is affecting how you look, or how you feel, lower eyelid surgery may be the solution. At American Eye Associates, we offer specialized lower eyelid blepharoplasty to help restore a natural, youthful appearance while supporting the functional health of the eyelids.
What Is Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty?
Lower blepharoplasty (or lower eyelid surgery) is a surgical procedure that removes or repositions excess fat and skin from the lower eyelids to reduce puffiness, smooth under-eye contours, and restore proper eyelid positioning.
In many cases, the surgery uses a transconjunctival approach, which involves making the incision on the inside of the eyelid, leaving no visible scar.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
You may benefit from this procedure if you:
- Are concerned about persistent under-eye bags or puffiness
- Have sagging skin or wrinkling beneath the eyes
- Experience discomfort or changes in eyelid function
- Want a refreshed look without looking overdone
- Are in good overall health and have realistic expectations
During your consultation, our team will evaluate your eyelid anatomy and goals to determine if surgery, or a non-surgical alternative, is right for you.
Lower Eyelid Surgery: What to Expect
Doctors typically perform the procedure in-office or in an outpatient surgery center, which usually takes 45 to 90 minutes. Here’s what the process looks like:
- Local anesthesia (and light sedation if needed) is used for comfort
- A surgeon makes a small incision inside the eyelid or just beneath the lash line
- Surgeons gently remove or reposition fat to smooth the under-eye area
- If needed, a surgeon tightens or trims excess skin
- In most cases, you will have no visible scarring
After the procedure, you’ll return home the same day with post-op instructions.
Recovery and Results
Recovery after lower eyelid surgery is typically smooth and well-tolerated. While it’s normal to experience mild swelling and bruising, most of that improves within the first 1 to 2 weeks. Patients are often surprised by how quickly they can return to work or normal activities.
We’ll provide cold compress instructions and soothing eye drops to help minimize discomfort and support healing. As the swelling gradually fades, you’ll notice your results taking shape, brighter, smoother, and more rested-looking eyes that can last for many years.
Medical vs. Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery
Doctors can perform lower eyelid surgery for medical and cosmetic reasons. If sagging or laxity of the lower eyelid affects your vision, comfort, or eye health, your doctor may qualify your procedure as medically necessary, and insurance may cover it.
For cosmetic concerns alone, coverage typically does not apply, but we offer transparent pricing and flexible financing options.
Not sure which category you fall into? We’ll help you navigate the process and determine coverage during your consultation.
