Upgrade Your Vision with Premium Intraocular Lenses
Cataract surgery doesn’t just restore your sight—it’s a chance to improve it. At American Eye Associates, we offer premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) that reduce dependence on glasses, enhance low-light vision, and give you sharper sight at all distances. Whether you’re reading, driving, or working at a screen, we tailor our IOL options to your lifestyle.
What Are Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)?
During cataract surgery, we replace your eye’s clouded natural lens with a clear artificial one called an intraocular lens (IOL). There are two primary types:
- Standard IOLs restore distance vision, but most patients still need glasses for reading or close-up tasks
- Premium IOLs offer enhanced vision across multiple distances, and some also correct astigmatism or improve contrast in low light
Premium lenses are an investment in your long-term vision quality. Our surgeons will help you choose the option that fits your needs.
Why Choose a Premium IOL?
- Clear vision at near, intermediate, and far distances
- Less reliance on reading glasses or bifocals
- Options for patients with astigmatism
- Improved night vision and contrast sensitivity (especially with Vivity™)
- Ideal for active lifestyles and screen-heavy routines

Multifocal IOLs
Multifocal lenses help you see clearly at multiple distances without relying on glasses or bifocals. Unlike standard monofocal lenses, multifocal IOLs feature multiple focusing zones that allow your eyes to adjust depending on where you're looking.
The most popular multifocal IOL is the PanOptix® Trifocal IOL. It is the first FDA-approved trifocal lens, offering sharp vision up close, far away, and everywhere in between.
Extended Depth-of-Focus IOLs
Extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) lenses provide a broader range of vision, especially for distance and intermediate tasks like driving and using a computer.
Unlike traditional multifocal lenses, which use distinct zones for near and far vision, EDOF lenses stretch and shift light to create a continuous range of clear vision. The result? Smoother transitions between distances, with less glare and fewer halos, especially in low-light situations.
The most well-known EDOF lens is the Vivity® IOL, which uses non-diffractive X-WAVE™ technology to deliver clear, comfortable vision with fewer visual side effects.
Toric IOLs for Astigmatism
Toric lenses correct astigmatism, a common condition where the cornea is irregular, causing blurred or distorted vision.
These lenses are available in monofocal and premium options, including PanOptix® and Vivity™. Toric IOLs are a great option if you have moderate to high astigmatism and want to reduce your dependence on glasses after cataract surgery.
Choosing the Right Lens
You may be a good candidate for a premium IOL if you:
- Want to minimize your dependence on glasses
- Have astigmatism or age-related near vision loss (presbyopia)
- Frequently use a computer, tablet, or smartphone
- Drive at night or require excellent low-light vision
- Are planning for cataract surgery and want a customized outcome
